Trojan Horse / Rainbow Flag is a zine by Ian Giles including an essay by Paul Clinton about the importance of gay bars.
The script printed inside documents the campaign to save the Joiners Arms an iconic LGBTQ+ pub in East London.
The title is inspired by a phrase coined by campaigner Amy Roberts, when describing the cynical approach of property developers seeking to push through proposals by disingenuously claiming that their LGBTQ+ status would remain unchanged post-development- "Councillors, you are fully aware of the Trojan Horse tactics employed by developers to gain local authority approval, whereby a pub is promised but fails to materialise. In our view THIS is nothing more than a Trojan Horse draped in a rainbow flag."
The zine features the verbatim script from Ian Giles' film 'Trojan Horse / Rainbow Flag', 2019 supported by the Arts Council England.
